Hand Applique Workshop

On Saturday, 11 WQC members gathered at Kelston to learn needleturn applique
with one of our own members, Tracey Roberts.
What a great day it was with Tracey sharing her vast knowledge on fabric, threads,
scissors and needles as well as teaching us the skills to do great
needle turn applique using freezer paper templates on the right side of the fabric.
Tracey is an excellent tutor and made sure we were all keeping up
and so good at sharing her skills as well as helping out with
needle threading and other the other problems we had.

Thankyou Tracey for a wonderful class.  I know I learnt a lot.
Thanks to Elizabeth for being gofer and keeping us well fed
and thank you to all the ladies who attended and brought lots of yummy food.

Tuesday's meeting

At the meeting this week, we had a Chinese auction.
The items in the auction were donated by members and
then members could buy 5 raffle tickets for a dollar.
This is one of the tables of goodies.
A cup was put in front of each item and you put a ticket in the
cup in front of the items you want to bid for.   At the end
a ticket is drawn for each item and the person holding the corresponding butt
is the winner.
This months' charity block
Some cute stockings made for charity.
The members block of the month is slowly coming together.
The committee challenge this month was pin cushions.

On Saturday 10th September,
Sharon from Pinevalley Quilts came to teach us
her technique for  machine invisible applique.
There was a lot of preparation to do.

There was sharing of resources

Cutting out shapes in fabric
the use of starch and glue
Jackie at the shop for those bits we forgot.
Shopping time
Sharon explaining the next step.
It was a wonderful day.  No real sewing done but all the skills

hand appliqued.
Thankyou to Elizabeth for keeping us fed and watered.

Raffle Quilt Working Bee

On Saturday the 13th August there was a good turn out of helpers to make the raffle quilt.
Annette was very organised and had cut all the fabric and put it in baskets.
A production line was formed with sewers and helpers.
Claire, Annette and Antoinette
Dragica and Annette S.
Yvonne and Pat with Vicki and Andrea in the background.
Jean working hard on the tablerunner.
June and Jean busy pressing.
The blocks nearly done.
Time to see how it looks before sewing the blocks together.

Annette getting the inner border ready.
And the inner border on.  It is looking good.
There were so many pieces left that some worked out a plan for a lap quilt with the left overs.
Jennifer, Sandy and Vicki.
This will be 2nd or 3rd prize.
And the tablerunner 2nd or 3rd.
All of this was completed on the day.
Outer borders still to be added to the main quilt and all three to be quilted.
Watch this space.
Thanks to all the ladies that attended the day (Annette d, Annette S, Pat, Vicki, Antoinette, Jennifer B, Jean, June, Jo, Andrea, Dragica, Chris, Yvonne, Sandy, Juliet, Claire, Jennifer G, and Tina).
And a special thank you to those that made the lovely food to keep us going.
